‘Hey Babe!’ Band Night

This was a girl-fronted band night at the Compass Theatre, it was wonderful! I Got to see Colour Me Wednesday, The Tuts, Perkie and Feralus. Most of these snaps are of The Tuts, Which I managed to get when they were sound-checking.

Dum Dum Girls Bow Tie!

Just got a custom made Dum Dum Girls inspired bow tie from Jen. It fits perfectly and the detail is yummy. This is the second one she made me as I gave the last one to Dee Dee when she signed my sketchbook (thank you Jen!)

Oh yeah, so don’t be a dummy and go plague her with requests now! Go on then - Here’s her Etsy. she’s got similarly beautiful hand-mades from recycled fabrics for you there.

Perkie
I’ve forgotten when and where I took this, damn.
Astonishing voice, wonderful lyrics. check out her stuff here.

The Tuts

Snaps taken alongside Jen at a local funfair. This band is a wondrous mix of Harriet, Nadia and Beverley. Check out their Tumblr

Petrify (Wired Up series)

Just recieved a copy of Petrify from the publisher. I might be getting another commission from them for another in the series but for a slightly younger audience and with more illustrations! Petrify is written by Beth Chambers.

Dum Dum Girls -
Was rummaging through my bag and found this old ticket stub *Sigh*. They’re awesome.
Check out Jen’s film of it. She records awesome gigs.

Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs -

Wahey! Received my copy of Snow White from the publisher. So that’s the two Classic Tales commissions done. They’re really hard to find on the net. Well they’re not even up on the publisher site yet, and they’re actually for schools. Bleh.

Library Display: Chinese New Year, Year of the Dragon

I’ve been doing displays at the library I work at ever since they realised I did illustration work. However, I’ve never really thought about, or had the time to record and photograph them, Its just too busy an environment. I managed to get some time to sneak off the counter and create a display to mark the Chinese New Year. After taking the advice of a fellow colleague, I took my camera along today to get a few quick snaps before it all disappears and transforms into something else. I’ve already had to heal the poor dragons forelimb after finding it torn off. No doubt, the workings of a jubilant 2 year old. It’s ephemeral art really and I’ve never felt too precious about them, but I always find them sooo enjoyable to create even if it means getting distracted by small library patrons asking for help finding Rainbow Magic and Horrid Henry Books.

Colour Me Wednesday sampler ‘11

Received this from Jen a couple of days ago. The cover art is awesome!

Dum Dum Girls, 17th Nov 2011 at ULU, London

The venue and sound was not so good, however they had presence and I felt their charisma. They sang Coming Down at the end, a song that really highlights Dee Dee’s voice. I got to meet them and asked Dee Dee to sign that sketch I did of her. I gave her a bow-tie in return (home-made by Silentpunk of course). Poor Hat couldn’t come with us, get well soon :(
